Very Informative Seminar on Gluten sensitivity led by Michael Ash
A very informative talk- if you ever have the chance to hear Michael Ash talk ..go ! He takes a very evidence based approch, trawling through all the scientific and medical journals and translating these findings into more understandable findings. a large part of the talk focused on gluten sensitivity rather than focusing on Coeliac disease.
Coeliac disease is an autoimmune condition and can usually be detected through medical analysis ( serum test, IG; colonoscopy) and the treatment is complete avaoidance of gluten and symptome usually resolve. Gluten sensitivity is a less undertood non immune gluten based disorder. Common symptoms include bloating and constipation. Simply put people with Gluten sensitivity need to avoid all gluten for 4-12 weeks in order for the T cell response to shut down, in effect after they die ( due to the length of their lifecycle)
In terms of a treatment plans for addressing gluten sensitivity, the key is immunological tolerance; i.e encouraging properly regulated mucosal immunity. The protocol for this could include
- digestive enzymes
- Appropriate strains of pre and pro boitics, including Saccharomyces Boulardii, Lactobacillus Rhamnosus, Lactobacillus Caseii, lactobacillus paracaseii, Bifidio Bifidus.
- EPA/DHA concentrate. 2-4g
- Vit A -5000-25000 iu and Vit D 6-12000iu.
His biggest tip-a super mediterranean diet and Apples!
